Evaluation: Mini-Grant Program
Evaluation of the Washington State Mental Health Transformation Project (MHTP) is conducted in partnership with consumers, youth, and families. The MHTP is committed to finding tangible ways to go beyond merely "having consumers at the table." To do so, the MHTP, in partnership with the Washington Institute for Mental Health Research and Training(WIMHRT), has established a Consumer, Youth, and Family Evaluation Mini-Grant Program.
The goal of the Mini-Grant Program is to elevate the research and evaluation expertise of consumers and family members by awarding grants of up to $15,000 to support research projects driven by priorities of these organizations and their constituencies. During the past two years, the program has awarded grants worth nearly $100,000 to eligible applicants to conduct research and evaluation projects. Eligible applicants included mental health consumers or family members, consumer/family organizations, tribes or tribal members.
More than 25 applications have been received, and 12 have been funded. Evaluation "coaches" have provided hundreds of hours of training, coaching, and technical assistance to support the development of ideas, proposals, and budgets, as well as the completion of the funded research projects.
